Welcome to the Mediterranean Society Of Coloproctology
Founded in Rome in 1998
MSCP President Greeting.
Dear friends and colleagues,
As the new president of the MSCP (2010-2012) I would first of all like to thank you all for electing me in that position.
As you know, the MSCP was founded in 1998 in Rome. Its main goal is to promote coloproctology in all countries in Asia, Africa and Europe which border the Mediterranean Sea.
In the past years, MSCP has organized 7 congresses and has tried to extend into all Mediterranean countries, by recruiting new members.
I would like to thank all members and friends of our society for their important contribution in the successful organization of the 7th biennial MSCP Congress in Thessaloniki, Greece from the 22nd to the 24th of April 2010 under my presidency. I believe that, over the next 2 years, we can make the society even stronger and manage to organize the 8th biennial congress in Spain with even greater success, under the auspices of our excellent colleagues Manuel Devesa and Gervasio Salgado.
In order to achieve those goals we need to work hard and systemically, not only amongst the members of the Governing Council, but also amongst all members of the society. Therefore I will ask for everyone’s contribution. I would like as to achieve close communication between us using the following means:
1. Regular e-mails for everyone’s information
2. 6-monthly letters from the MSCP President to the society’s website
3. Visits to the MSCP website in order to keep ourselves up-to-date with the society’s news.
Our aims are:
1. Close cooperation amongst members
2. Recruitment of new and young members in the countries which already have members (we have already had many new memberships from Greece)
3. Attracting new members from countries that are not yet included in the society
I would like to ask you to be consistent with the membership fee payments, in contact with the treasurer. This will help our society to be financially robust and will support the existence of our journal.
If you would allow me to stretch out that Techniques in Coloproctology has reached a very high standard, thanks to the efforts of the Editor-in-Chief Mario Pescatori and the Editorial Board members. It has been appearing on PubMed over the last years and we expect an Impact Factor by the beginning of 2011. Nevertheless, our journal needs everyone’s support in order for it to develop even further.
It would be a mistake not to mention the important role of the society’s website, under the supervision of Antonio Amato and Pier Paolo Dal Monte, which aids our communication and helps the extension of our society.
With these thoughts, I would like to wish everyone good health, will and strength for the period 2010-2012. Many wishes for success to the 8th biennial MSCP congress in Spain, the organization of which has already began.
